The Point Hostels Miraflores

After 16 hours of travel, we got there at midnight and were told the private room we had booked well in advance wasn't available because its bathroom was broken. They offered us an empty four-bed dorm for the first night, and since we were exhausted and it was so late, we felt we had little choice but to accept. They could have told us earlier so we could book somewhere else, but didn't mention it until we arrived. We asked for a 50% refund for that first night because we weren't given the room we'd paid for, but they refused. Then they said they could make it cheaper by putting us in a four-bed dorm, but splitting my partner and me between separate dorms. Just moments earlier they'd offered the whole empty dorm to the two of us, so this felt spiteful and punitive. One staff member was rude and dismissive during the conversation. They also told us we could cancel, knowing that booking through Hostelworld meant we'd lose a significant amount of money, and said it was “not their issue”. The hygiene and upkeep were poor too. There was mold on the pillows under the pillowcases. The rooftop bar was bad, the pool table was dirty, and the pool cues had no tips and couldn't be used. The large Jenga game was sticky, and the blocks wouldn't slide out. Overall, the place had poor hygiene, badly maintained facilities, and unprofessional, unsympathetic service. I wouldn't recommend it, especially to couples who book a private room and expect to get it.

A good, inexpensive hostel in a safe part of Miraflores, with spacious rooms. It's close to the Costa Verde of Miraflores. The rooftop is a quiet spot during the day and turns into a bar in the evening.

The Point puts on lots of fun things, including Spanish immersion and dance classes. Beds are comfortable, the water is hot, and the WiFi is strong. Rooftop parties can go on until 4 a.m. The park right next door has music, performers, and small souvenir and food stalls at night, and there are lots of vegan restaurants nearby. Kristell and Danny were wonderful: they made me a delicious vegan breakfast sandwich to take on my 5:30 a.m. tour. I was so grateful!

I had a wonderful stay. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and welcoming, and the service was excellent. Ruby, the lovely receptionist, was especially kind and helpful, always greeting us with a warm smile and going above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. She really made our stay special.
