It was clean, and the owner was very nice and helpful. Just remember, this is a hostel, not a hotel rated by hotel standards.

We only stayed for 30 minutes and used the bathroom, but the woman got upset when we decided to leave and charged us 35 soles. When we booked by phone, she hadn't said the bathroom was shared. She also gave us a different room in the end. I don't recommend it.

We paid for a room with its own bathroom, but the host claimed an American man was refusing to leave the room we'd booked. We ended up sharing a bathroom with lots of people for three nights. It was constantly occupied and filthy, and we weren't offered a lower price for the room without a private bathroom. I felt ripped off. The worst part was that he didn't tell me sooner, so I couldn't cancel and find somewhere else with a private bathroom. A nightmare, and incredibly disrespectful.

The staff were friendly and responsive, and the bedding was decent. The location also works well for walking to the Larco Museum, about 25 minutes away. But the shared bathroom was a mess, with hair everywhere and dirty dishcloths left lying around. The electric shower didn't give us any hot water. The place looks dated, and staff came and went noisily very early, around 6:30 a.m. There's no hostel sign, so you have to ring a doorbell that looks like any apartment's. For what you get, the value is very average. We don't understand the ratings.
