We’ve stayed here several times, and the calm, friendly feel is a lovely counterbalance to the rest of Lima. It’s charming and a little rustic. The upstairs rooms cost a bit more, but they offer more privacy and patio furniture just outside. Breakfast is a good quality, light spread. There’s no A/C, though that’s usually fine in Lima.

The location worked well for us, with lots to see and do within walking distance, and the simple breakfast was fine. But we stayed for two weeks and found it extremely noisy, so it wasn’t a relaxing visit. There’s no air conditioning, and traffic could be loud when we had to keep the windows open at night to cool the room. Worse, construction went on right outside our window the whole stay, waking me with loud work every morning, despite a sign saying quiet hours were from 8am to 9pm. The room was very basic, and the toilet kept running unless we waited for it to refill and then adjusted the flusher. If we return to Peru, we wouldn’t stay here again.

I’ve come back to this charming hotel countless times over 16 years. It’s a warm home away from home in the heart of Lima’s Miraflores, and I always start my Lima visits here. The staff are consistently caring and go out of their way to help, which feels special amid the surrounding impersonal high-rises. I love its cozy, classic character and the soulful Peruvian hospitality, while it remains convenient and affordable. The garden is still a sanctuary in the middle of all that soulless development. Thank you very much, Team Hostal al Patio!

The staff made our first trip outside our home country feel easy, taking care of us like family. They had our room ready early after 24 hours of travel, and when I thought I might need to stay longer before departure, they happily worked with our personal needs. The secure, comfortable compound was quiet at night, and I slept better here than anywhere else we stayed in Peru. They provide traditional wool blankets, high quality Peruvian cotton comforters, hot drinks at any hour, and as much clean water as we needed, which helped with our travel dehydration. They provide ozone water, so we didn’t worry about bacteria, viruses, or contaminants. Breakfast was homestyle, with delicious bread and fresh Peruvian juice. I can’t believe how much comfort and care we got for such an affordable price. For a meal nearby, Restaurante Contraste is around the corner, a family run fine dining spot with sustainably sourced local ingredients and an amazing 6 or 8 course tasting menu. This hotel and its location are a real gem. You shouldn’t be disappointed.

The shower pressure on the second floor was pretty poor, though you could still get clean. Everything else made for a great stay: the hostel was beautiful, I felt safe, and the staff were incredibly kind, with someone at reception around the clock. It’s in a great area. Wi-Fi was mostly good, and breakfast was good too, though there weren’t many choices.
