River O.
The location was a plus for meals: Mercado Modelo is half a block away, with budget-friendly breakfast and lunch. The street was quiet, and the building has colonial style like the rest of the neighborhood. My room was large, bright, and had high ceilings and windows. The staff made the stay worse. Someone at reception was always watching TV or talking on the phone, and there were no smiles or greetings. They'd just hand things over without saying anything. They said hot water was available all day, but I only got it in the morning and early afternoon. My room was cold, and after waiting half a day for a blanket, I had to ask again before one arrived. I also saw several cockroaches and killed a few. The mattress had some kind of vinyl cover that made me sweaty and uncomfortable. The only outlets were high on the wall, so I had to unplug the TV to use one. The area didn't seem especially dangerous, but the caged entrance made me feel like a prisoner. It was frustrating when I wanted to leave and nobody was there to open it, and there was no bell inside to ring. I paid s52/night, cash only. Room tip: If you stay here, ask for a room away from reception.
