Hotel El Ducado

We felt safe the whole time, and the staff were good. The location was easy to find, the price was good, and breakfast was simple but decent. I liked all the plants, though next time I might look at somewhere just south of this area.

The staff were friendly and helpful the whole time, and the prices were really good. It’s on a quiet street, just a couple of minutes from Larcomar, so you’re nearby without being caught up in the city’s bustle. I’d read some of the reviews and expected something quite different, but was glad to be wrong. The place was really clean and worked perfectly for a few nights in the city.

On the second night, the room’s systems failed, even though everything had worked the first night. We couldn’t charge our phones because none of the plugs worked, and the water stopped running early in the evening and never came back, so there was no shower, handwashing, or flushing the toilet. An electrical issue also made the A/C switch itself on about every 45 minutes with a horrible beep and buzz. We had to get up each hour to turn it off. The bedside light kept switching on and off when we tried to use it. There were no spare rooms. The only alternative was changing hotels at 1 a.m., the night before an early flight, so we stayed put and flew home without sleep or a chance to shower. About a week later, they got back to me, apologized, and refunded one night. They said an issue outside the hotel had affected rooms on the 4th floor, and regretted they couldn’t do more at the time.

The hotel is only a couple of blocks from Larco Mar Shopping Center and very close to the main Larco Mar Ave, which makes it easy to recommend. The staff are great, especially at reception, where everyone was extremely nice and helpful. They’re professional and speak English well. Breakfast is a buffet, and someone keeps it stocked.
