I went with my wife for a week in August and booked a suite with a great balcony view. The free scheduled activities each day, like yoga, boxing, salsa, bartending class, and happy hour, were enjoyable. Still, the price felt high when most of our quality time was spent outside the hotel. The paid tour options disappointed us too: two tours we wanted weren’t available despite giving 24 hours’ notice. We found providers along the beach near the pier who were much cheaper. The suite had no mini-fridge, and outside alcohol wasn’t allowed. The hotel seemed to expect guests to spend at its bar and restaurant, where prices were on the expensive side, about like Miraflores in Lima. There’s no room service either. Our A/C leaked, and it took days to get fixed. The common area was nice and the weather was wonderful, but the music was too much in the morning. From 3 to 10 a.m. you can hear the waves and sea breeze, then generic electronic music booms all day. The ocean is warm and pleasant at knee depth, but there are rocks farther in, and the fishing boats block the horizon. It seemed to me that most guests were non-Hispanic, and the place appealed more to young, single foreigners. If, like me, you love the ocean, I’d suggest Playa Punta Sal, a more remote spot about 20 minutes from Mancora by taxi or bus.

The hotel itself is beautiful, but the reception service was very poor. We asked several times about getting a ride to the airport for our departure and were told someone would get back to us later. Nobody did, so we had to arrange transport ourselves at the last minute. On departure day, we were told we could no longer use the facilities and could only leave our luggage there for 60 soles per person. One staff member claimed she had told us this the day before, which definitely wasn’t true. We would have gladly spent the day at the hotel buying food and drinks, but were told that went against hotel policy. So we’ll spend our money at a neighboring hotel while we wait for the taxi we arranged ourselves. I’ve never had this happen at any other hotel around the world. I hope the service improves over time to the standard of European hotels. This left us with a very bad final impression and significantly spoiled an otherwise enjoyable vacation.

Roxana and Ana were amazing, helping make check-out and the rest of our hotel experience easy and enjoyable. They were also really helpful with planning and suggestions for things to do nearby. I highly recommend staying at Qema for the service and a great experience.

There’s always something fun to do here, and it’s a beautiful, comfortable place to spend time. Everyone on staff was super friendly, especially Victoria, the waitress who looked after me for most of the weekend. I’d definitely come back soon :)

The hotel has a beautiful setting and a nice atmosphere. There’s no TV, which makes sense since the idea is to go out and explore. At the little restaurant, Brian was very friendly and attentive to everything we needed.
