I love old buildings and there’s some charm here, but the place was too rough in the cold. My second-floor room faced the street, and I could hear absolutely everything from outside, the hall, and the next room. I never got a hot shower, despite being told there was hot water, and there was no heating. The front desk guy also never gave me my change. They lock the hostel at around 9:30, and people were asking in the Hostel World chat for help getting in when nobody answered the door. Just so you know, your room key opens the side door on the left.

The owners and staff are so nice, and the rooms are cute, clean, and really pleasant. The location in town is perfect, especially if you need a drop-off or pickup for a collectivo. Amazing place to stay, highly recommend.

Apu Veronica was a great dinner recommendation. The staff also gave us useful local advice, including a detailed Ollantaytambo map and ideas for things to do. They spoke English decently well, the internet worked without any trouble, and we could pay by credit card. When we went to Machu Picchu overnight, they kindly kept our bags and let us return to the same room. They checked in with us daily and asked whether we wanted breakfast. It was mostly freshly cooked eggs with bread, butter, and jam. The family-owned Inka King Hotel is just steps from the main square, near the Plaza, and the area felt safe for enjoying the sights. Our second-floor room had beautiful mountain views in the morning. A few things to know: street-facing rooms can be noisy in the morning and at night, the walls are a little thin, and you may want earplugs. There’s no elevator, so you’ll need to use the stairs. Hot water takes a little while to adjust and heat up, but I was glad it was available. We loved our stay and would come back.

It’s the family who run this place that make the stay so good. Caly helped with everything, from suggestions for places to visit and inside tips for Machu Picchu to storing our luggage. Everyone was warm and welcoming. The hotel itself is lovely too, just a short walk from the town square, with a gorgeous garden, a terrace with spectacular views, nice rooms, and plenty of blankets. This is where we’ll stay next time we’re in Ollantaytambo.

Don’t miss Inca King’s rooftop terrace, with its fantastic views of the mountains and archaeological sites. It’s a relaxing place close to everything in Ollantaytambo, a hidden gem in the Sacred Valley. There are lots of hikes, good food, history, and a good vibe.
