Hotel Pakaritampu

We had a spacious, clean room and really enjoyed the gardens and tasty breakfast. The team was professional and attentive, and the hotel itself is beautiful. Its location is ideal too. It felt like an amazing find in such a small town, and we loved staying here.

We were glad the hotel could store our larger bags for free, since the trains to Aguas Calientes only allow 10kg per passenger. We could leave our checked luggage there and collect it after Machu Picchu. The included breakfast had good, healthy choices, and the property was lovely, with lush landscaping, lots of birds, and a stream whose sound was soothing at bedtime. We spent one night at Hotel Pakaritampu while traveling from Cusco to Machu Picchu and wished we’d stayed another night to enjoy the grounds. It’s around a 10-minute walk from Ollantaytampo’s main square and only a couple of minutes from the Perurail and Inca rail station. Our reason for giving the room four stars is that it felt dated and could use an upgrade.

The gardens are a peaceful place to unwind, with lovely views and plenty of birds, especially hummingbirds. The grounds are thoughtfully laid out in separate buildings with a few rooms each, and our room was clean and comfortable. Staff were polite, friendly, and helpful, and breakfast was a standard buffet. It’s a little out of town, but very handy for catching the train the next morning. A beautiful stop after a long day.

The hotel gardens were calm and peaceful, but we came away a bit disappointed during the Sacred Valley part of our Peru tour. The rooms felt outdated, the city center was about a 10-minute walk, and breakfast was decent rather than good. It began at 5 AM, which was useful, but the coffee was instant, not brewed, and the milk was off on almost every day we were there. There was a wide selection otherwise: tea, coffee, hot chocolate, cake, scrambled or hard-boiled eggs, sausage, fried banana, jam, cold cuts, cheese, bread, fruit including banana, pineapple, cantaloupe, melon, apple, and orange, fruit juices, plain and strawberry yogurt, corn cereal, Andean granola, and olives.
