San Isidro's House

We couldn't stay here. We arrived to check in around 3:00 pm, but nobody was there and the front door was locked. I couldn't reach anyone by phone, text, or email. We waited on the street for over 30 minutes, ringing the bell, and no one came. In the end, we left and booked another hostel. The location is a bit remote, down a dirt road from the main area with restaurants.

The people working there were nice, but that's about it. I wiped the flat outer rim of the sink with toilet paper, and in one pass it came away greasy yellow. It didn't give me much confidence about the cleanliness. The shower curtain was slimy too. There wasn't soundproofing, which sucked with the neighbor's dog barking all night and roosters crowing early in the morning. That's not entirely their fault, but the lack of soundproofing made it worse.

The people were nice and the bed was comfortable, but I'd stay somewhere else. When I tried to check in at 3:30pm, nobody was there; the neighbours said they'd gone outside town. Not convenient when you're carrying a heavy backpack. The place was empty, yet I got a small inside room that smelled like sewage the whole time. And charging 8 soles for a big bottle of water that costs 2 across the street is a bit much.

The bed and pillows were really comfortable. We only got to stay one night because our plans changed, though we’d planned to return for another. I’d gladly stay here again if I’m back.
