Hostel Willys House

We couldn’t wait to leave. Maybe this place will be nice when the work is finished, but some older comments suggest construction has been going on for about five years. We weren’t told it was still a building site, with workers, dust, and noise, even though we were charged to stay there. For all four days, workers were grinding, drilling, and hammering right above our room from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., including weekends. I ended up wearing noise-cancelling earplugs just to dull the pounding power-tool sounds. When I went for a jog, workers upstairs shouted crude, suggestive comments out the window, which made me uncomfortable while exercising. Our first room hadn’t been cleaned: it still had dirty sheets, used towels hanging up, and a full bathroom bin. They changed it quickly, and the replacement seemed relatively clean, but it was very dim and had no wardrobe or drawers, so we had to balance our clothes on our rucksacks. The shower was barely a trickle, so I couldn’t wash my hair during our stay. Its floor had a slippery, grimy film that couldn’t be cleaned properly. I slipped the first time I stepped in, luckily without injury, and the extendable curtain rail fell down too.

We waited more than 30 minutes after arriving for someone to come to reception so we could check in, and nobody picked up the mobile contact number. Once in, though, the room was quiet and comfortable, and seemed new. It was really nice, with a Smart TV, good WiFi, and a large, very clean bathroom with a hot shower. Breakfast is served from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Clean hotel in Paracas.

The location is good and the place was clean, but the building isn’t finished and has no roof, so it was extremely loud. There was no air conditioning either, and it was so hot we couldn’t sleep. The shower had no hot water or pressure, and breakfast was a small omelette with two bread rolls. Doors and windows didn’t feel secure. They also tried to overcharge us when we left. Paying by card costs an extra 5%.

We arrived late last night and were taken straight to our room. It was a big, bright, modern room with a TV on the wall, better than anywhere else we’ve stayed in Peru. Breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty. I’d highly recommend this place.
