Bamboo Lodge Paracas

We came to Paracas on a last-minute trip and chose this place because the Lonely Planet guide recommended it. It wasn’t busy, so we got the family room. The sleeping layout didn’t work well for us: there was a very narrow double bed (more like a super single) and a single bed at the window end, while the bunk was by the door at the back. The kids wanted the beds by the windows, and papa was too tall for the bunk. Its mattress sagged and sloped, and that end of the room felt hot. There were lots of dead flies on the floor and in the toilet. The toilet was tiny, and the shower was dark with weak pressure and flow, though at least the water was hot. Dinner at the restaurant was a little salty but otherwise okay, and a cat kept coming over to ask for food. Breakfast was meant to start at 7:15, but there was still no activity in the kitchen at nearly 7:30. We told the receptionist we had to leave for our boat ride and would eat when we got back. The service was friendly, but the place needs renovating to offer better value. We weren’t expecting five-star standards, or we’d have stayed down the street, but we were disappointed. The main draw is the location, which is great for a boat ride. I wouldn’t recommend it for families.

Our bed was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was a nice extra, and the staff were friendly. But the room was very hot, with no air conditioning or fan, and we found lots of dead bugs in it. The walls and windows were so thin that we heard everyone in the hall and the construction. There’s no elevator, so you have to carry your bags up and down all the stairs. The shower swung between super hot and freezing, with no middle ground.

Right by the beach, restaurants and little shops, this is a nice hotel. Some rooms have a balcony with a good view of the fishermen, tourist boats and sunset.

This is a review of the hotel. We already had a reservation and wanted to keep it because of the location and the excellent restaurant on site, where we’d eaten several times before. The man at reception was rude, acted like he was above us, and wouldn’t help with small requests. The hotel has potential, but plenty of things need repairing, and you can hear everything from nearby rooms. For the quality and management’s service, it felt overpriced. The restaurant, though, is excellent, with great service and seriously delicious food. I’d recommend eating there, but not staying.
