Puno Terra

I’ve stayed here twice and love this little hotel. Peru is my 104th country for business and tourism, so I think I have a decent sense of what to expect. This is about a $22/night hotel, and for that price it’s amazing. The place is clean and quiet, easy to get around on foot, with solid WiFi, a nice little breakfast, and incredibly kind, helpful staff. It’s family-owned and run, and they really go out of their way. They booked tours, gave me several airport shuttle options and arranged one, pointed me to photo and copy services for visa applications and to ATMs, copied my documents, and printed a hefty list of paperwork needed by Bolivian immigration. One of my tours left early, and they served breakfast before opening time. For $22? Come on. A couple of small downsides: other reviews mention lukewarm showers, though mine was fine, just not steaming, and water prices varied by attendant by a matter of cents. Their English is limited, but basic basic Spanish works, and Google Translate helps with more complicated things. They make an effort to understand and help.

Less than a five minute walk from the main square, and it feels like a little home away from home, with my Abuela looking after me. It’s a down to earth family owned and run spot, a cute base for exploring Puno with everything you need. The water is hot, there are heaters in the rooms, and the sweetest lady goes above and beyond to make sure you have a good stay. The host got up extra early so we’d have a full breakfast before our scheduled travel. English was limited, but we understood a lot, and Google Translate helped with the more complex bits.

Good breakfast and a great location, with friendly staff. It was just difficult to communicate with them.

So glad we chose to stay here. The place was spacious and clean, and best of all, silent!
