Titicaca Marka Lodge

The hosts really went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Valeria was the best host imaginable, and our spacious room came with incredible views.

Waking up floating out on the open water was unlike anything else. Staying at Titicaca Marka Lodge gave us a chance to experience how the Uros peoples have lived on the lake for generations, with the comforts of a relaxing retreat. Valeria and Jose were kind and accommodating, sorting out transfers, making beautiful meals, and setting us up for a kayaking adventure. The lodge runs entirely on solar power, so hot water can run out. We enjoyed feeling unplugged for a few days.

Valle, her husband Jose, and David made us feel like family on our first visit in August 2021, and we loved it enough to come back in May 2022. My boyfriend Cesar is Colombian and I'm Canadian; we travel a lot and had Lake Titicaca on our adventure list. The rooms felt comfortable and luxurious, and someone came each night to make sure the fireplace was lit. Valle cooked for us every day, from fresh juices to chicken and fresh vegetables, and it was all delicious. For my birthday, Valle decorated the room with flowers and heart balloons, and even wrote C and K on the floor with hearts. She and her family are such genuine people, and helped us experience the Uros and its culture. Plenty of places offer similar amenities and food, but Valle, her husband, and David are what set this place apart. It feels like home away from home, and we can't wait to return. XX

The room my host family arranged for me was big and cozy, right by the lake with a beautiful view. Breakfast was provided each day, and they also gave me dinner at night. Just be aware that getting on and off the floating island isn't very convenient, and there was no Wi-Fi. Bring cash if you plan to pay at the hotel. I’d highly recommend staying here.
