Monterrico Hotel Peru

Mariana at the front desk was very helpful and seemed to anticipate what we needed. The rooms were clean and the service was great at this lovely little hotel. I'd definitely stay again. RD

We paid about $40-50 a night and got the best room we found in Lima, Cusco, or Machu Pichu. My husband and I stayed two nights in April 2016. The staff were great, and the bar was well stocked with fair prices. It's close to Mira Flores Beach, though getting around Surco can be tricky, so bring the address. Ask for Anna or Janire if you need help. They even let us check out late for free after we accidentally slept in. Highly recommend.

I hadn't been back in at least 15 years, so it was nice to find the place still listed on Google Maps. I hope the rooms keep the same cozy, private feel and continue to be maintained so well now that the original owner has left.

Breakfast doesn't start until 8:00, so if you're leaving early you can't have any, and there's no discount for missing it. That was just one of many frustrating parts of our stay. We were quoted 120 soles over the phone, then told the price was 180 at reception. We paid with two 100-soles bills, but they had no change for five hours. Later, we couldn't pay 10 soles for two warm drinks with a 20-soles bill because they still had no change, and the fridge they sent us to wasn't working. We ended up trying the sink water and hoping it was safe to drink. The reception staff also wouldn't help carry our six suitcases in from the street or up to the room. A pretty embarrassing experience, and one we won't repeat. Lima has plenty of other hotels, and I doubt many could be worse.
