We run a hostal in Chile ourselves, and can only recommend this one. The service is good around the clock, and it's clean and friendly.

The room was clean, but that was the only good part. With no air conditioning, it was unbearably hot, and the doors kept jamming, which made things uncomfortable. Breakfast was disgusting: three rolls, a tiny bit of butter, and barely any jam, not even enough for one roll. We had a terrible time and definitely can't recommend this place.

There are shops and places to eat nearby, and although the area is a bit far from the city center, it was quiet. We still walked around both day and night, nearby and toward the center. The room was comfortable, the shower was great, and keyless entry to the hostel and rooms was convenient. Staff were always ready to help with questions, and the value for money was very good. If we return to Tacna, we'll definitely stay at Hostal Silpay again.
