La Floresta Tarapoto Hostal

The owners were wonderful and did more than expected to make our stay enjoyable. The garden setting had a lovely, friendly feel, and breakfast was nice too, though the coffee was pretty average. We liked the fruit salad each morning, but on the last day it was just a piece of watermelon on a plate, which my husband didn't eat. We asked for a banana instead, but nothing else was available. We had two cold showers during our four-night stay. The internet was okay. It's out of town on a busy road, so walking into town wouldn't have been enjoyable. Getting a ride there and back was easy, about 10 minutes.

Victoria and her staff made us feel at home in these brand-new facilities. Our room was roomy and very comfortable. If you want to get away from the city's bustle and relax, this is the place.

The worst part was the lack of hot water. In May, cold showers were extremely uncomfortable. The pool was very dirty too, and the drains never seemed to get cleaned. Breakfast was poor, just coffee, juice, bread and eggs. Loud music played until the early hours, and the curtains didn't block out light at all, so getting a good night's sleep was impossible. I was in a single room on the first floor, and it smelled strongly of mildew. The bathroom was cramped, especially the toilet, which was pushed against the wall and made it very hard to sit down or get up. The sheets and bedding were very dirty, with obvious stains. The hotel is outside the city and quite isolated. For the same price, you can find much better places in the city center. I absolutely don't recommend staying here.

The rooms were fine and the staff was excellent, but the shared areas aren't maintained well. I found more than one wasp nest inside the hotel, which could be dangerous for guests.
