The Shilcayo river is just behind Taki Tambo, and in the evenings a cool breeze moves through the place. I left my windows open, and the insect screens worked well. The rooms open onto lush, well-kept gardens with tall Amazonian trees, birds, and butterflies, all part of a thoughtfully arranged lodge that’s a quieter choice in Tarapoto. I’ve stayed at many places in the area over nearly 20 years of visits, and for anyone going to Takiwasi next door, this is the best option. The staff are terrific, Peruvian hospitality at its best. You have to experience it to understand. There’s fast internet, a big kitchen and common area, a hammock on each room’s veranda, optional meals, laundry, and the other expected amenities. Highly recommend it.

The kitchen deserves a special mention. The food was better than what I’ve had at the best places in Tarapoto, and they welcome post dieteros. Since I’d had my dieta a few weeks earlier, I didn’t have to worry about pork fat. Order ahead, because the chef takes 1.5-2 hours to prepare it, but it’s so worth the wait. I stayed at Taki Tambo with my two little puppies, and everyone welcomed us warmly. The lodge’s clean, simple design really caught my eye, and every person on staff was especially kind. Such a wonderful experience. I’ll be back for more fun. Thank you 🙏

Just a few minutes from downtown Tarapoto, this little oasis has really comfortable rooms and excellent food on site. The staff are so kind and do everything they can to make your stay perfect. Without a doubt, it’s the best hotel in Tarapoto! 🌿✨

The hotel sits in a lovely green setting, and the staff are fabulous. Some of the extras were very overpriced, though, including the tours and airport taxi. You can get those same services elsewhere for a third of the price.

The evening nature sounds are so soothing. It’s a wonderful place with wonderful people, and I highly recommend it for a peaceful jungle getaway.
