Hostal Solari

The room had plenty of space, a fridge, several outlets, and a hot and cold shower. Wi-Fi was available, though it kept cutting out. We were checked in by Darwin and could go straight to our room. Brian served breakfast each day and was courteous and helpful, but the breakfast area had poor ventilation. Our room also got hot even with the fans running. The location is handy, a couple of blocks from the plaza and close to shops and places to eat. We had a good stay at Hostal Solari in Trujillo overall. One thing to know: payment is cash only, despite what the online booking information said.

The bathroom felt a little cramped, and with the windows open the room was noisy. Even so, I had a very good stay. It’s affordable and close to Plaza de Armas, the staff were attentive and helpful, and breakfast included scrambled eggs.

Street noise was a real drawback, especially the constant honking. The windows softened it somewhat, but they didn’t block it, and how much you hear seems to depend on the room. The Wi-Fi worked reasonably well but was unreliable, with regular disconnects from all three hotspots. Still, we liked the location, just two blocks from the main square, and the men at reception, especially the breakfast cook, were very friendly. The women, unfortunately, were quite the opposite. We paid 188 soles for two nights in a double room. It was a good size, with a double bed, a single bed, storage, and a small private bathroom with a hot shower. Breakfast came with the room: scrambled eggs, two rolls, butter, a little jam, juice, and a hot drink. Being able to check in at 8:00 a.m. and leave our luggage there until the evening after checkout was especially helpful. It's a good hotel we can recommend if you don't rely too much on Wi-Fi.
