PUQIO by Andean

Puqio feels like a hotel should, blending naturally into its surroundings. The rooms, food, and the way the hotel supports you on excursions all fit together beautifully. Attentive to every detail, the service made this one of the best destinations in Peru, and in the world.

The people at Puqio Hotel were genuinely kind, knowledgeable about the region, and eager to make our time there memorable. Their care and professionalism stood out from start to finish. They helped arrange last-minute tours, tailored breakfast to what we liked, and checked in to make sure we were comfortable. We felt more like we were visiting close friends than staying at a hotel. The hotel is stylish and modern while fitting beautifully into the natural surroundings of Colca Valley. Our room was spotless, cozy, quiet, and had thoughtful touches that gave it a boutique feel. We left feeling recharged, inspired, and grateful. If you’re visiting Colca Valley, staying at Puqio is well worth it.

We got to pick our activities each day, and the enthusiastic guides took us to fascinating places around Puqio. The food was very fresh. I still remember the exquisite grilled trout we had for dinner. The staff showed excellent hospitality, and all in all it was an exquisite experience.

The excursions from @puqio_andean were every bit as memorable as the stay itself. We did two hikes, a bike ride, and a horseback ride, each beautiful in its own way. Two outings ended with spectacular picnics in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by quiet and nature. After a day out, it was lovely to soak in one of the two wooden hot tubs overlooking the valley. The room and main living and dining area had some of the most exquisite design I’ve seen, refined without being pretentious, warm, and inspiring. Each night there was a small handmade gift waiting in our room, a thoughtful touch that made us feel cared for. The whole experience had the same level of detail and care I’d found at @titilaka_andean, but it felt completely different, full of surprises. There was a genuine warmth and laid-back feel that’s hard to describe. Dinner was a highlight every night. There isn’t a traditional menu. Each meal is called a celebration and honors an ingredient or cooking method. We had celebrations of quinoa, squash, and puchero. Puchero is a traditional Peruvian dish of slowly boiled meats and assorted vegetables, usually served with broth, much like Spanish cocido. Seeing such a familiar dish served in an elevated setting isn’t something you find every day, and to me it reflects what @_andean is about. Every dinner also started with incredible homemade bread and flavored butter, different each day.
