Mahina's Lodge

I stayed for six weeks on a sports holiday, and the quiet setting was just what I needed to rest and recover. Jean Pierre’s cooking really helped with that, and he’s always glad to show off his skills. He’s busy making sure guests are happy and getting things organized, while Gerade takes care of the tidy lodges, laundry, and all kinds of helpful background work. The hosts are welcoming, the view is lovely, and the pets are a pleasure, very well behaved. You can also add massages, great meals, an airport shuttle, or activities at the Kite Surf Centre, from kite surfing to jet ski tours. Thanks for a memorable stay!

A small, very nice lodge with a kitchen and pool. The owner was really helpful. I’d recommend it.

When it came time to pay, the host tried to charge us again for the stay, even though it was already included in the Booking price. He said it wasn’t very expensive at 100 XPF/day/person. And if you still decide to book after all this, don’t go to 28 Super Mahina, that isn’t the place. The address on Booking is wrong. The studio opens straight onto the hosts’ kitchen, so all the smells come in, and there’s no privacy at all. They also have dogs that bark every night and get in your space. The six nights were a nightmare: ants everywhere, including in the bed, cockroaches in the closet, spiders by the bed, gecko droppings all over the walls, questionable curtains, and an air conditioner that was very noisy and leaked above the bed. Without it, the heat was stifling. They charge an extra €10 a day for air conditioning, even though Booking.com lists it as an amenity. There’s no kitchenette as advertised, only a filthy mini-fridge, sink, and microwave. Eating in the apartment is forbidden because the hosts offer meals for €42 per person. With ants everywhere and the cutlery and dishes in that state, eating there didn’t seem like a good idea anyway. The terrace gets full sun and has no amenities. Horrible accommodation, avoid at all costs. The hosts seemed to be trying to rip us off.

The pool looking out over the forest and sea is magnificent, and the accommodation itself is really nice. Jean-Pierre and Gérald gave us such a warm welcome that we felt right at home.
