The location and common areas were great, and the shared space was clean. The food was really good: simple toast for breakfast, then generous fish dinners with lots of salad. Eating dinner together was nice, and the bikes and kayaks were good too. Our bungalow was the letdown. It felt old and not well maintained, with a toilet that looked old and a room where tiny balls or bugs kept falling from the roof and covering our things. The pillows smelled strongly of damp, so we couldn't use them. For the price, the setting and common areas are perfect, but I wouldn't recommend the pension because of the room.

We were really disappointed by the owner's attitude and that of some staff during our lagoon tour. They took a dog on the boat, then left her alone on the mot island without food or water. They didn't seem to care about her. When we asked them to go back for the dog, the owner came over aggressive and unpleasant, raising his voice. The way someone treats animals says a lot about them. 👎🏽

Ben is a great host, and we loved the beautiful place. Our bungalow had everything we needed, with an amazing view and lovely food. We really enjoyed the excursion too.

Pension Hotu is on Tikehau in the Tuamotus, not on Rangiroa. They cancelled on me at the last minute after I'd paid for a round-trip flight. I was in a remote part of the South Pacific with sketchy internet, so finding somewhere else was hard. Thanks to Tikehau Rai BNB and Tikehau Village, who each took me in for a couple of days.
