Royal Huahine Resort

It was quiet and secluded, apart from the birds, and getting to Fare to find food or explore was easy with the free ferry. The hotel's food was average, but we loved our stay and the snorkeling. The rooms are large and spacious.

We spent a week here on our honeymoon a few years ago, and it was such a bad stay that we actively tell people to avoid the place. No employees were there when we arrived, so we couldn't get food. When we finally did get food the next day, nobody came to clear the plate, and flies became a huge problem. The roofs leaked badly. On rainy nights, water came down onto the bed, and we often couldn't sleep. We kept moving the bed around, searching for a dry spot. When we raised it with staff, they told us, "All of our room are like that." A nearby resident who apparently didn't want visitors played pop music so loudly that the whole hotel heard it all day, every day. We couldn't use the pool or kayaks either, since no staff were on site to unlock them. I don't usually write reviews like this, but I hope it keeps people from going.

This place feels like it's running on fumes. Maybe three people work across the whole "resort," if you can even call it that, and there was zero attention to service. The rooms are old and grimy, with stains on the sheets and curtains. We asked for a late checkout and were refused, so now we're stuck waiting four hours for the boat shuttle. There's a lot more I could say about the stay, but I'll let the other reviews speak for themselves. They're pretty accurate. Avoid at all costs!!

I loved starting the day by stepping straight off my own pontoon into the water for a snorkel. The overwater bungalow was roomy and felt quite private, especially with an empty bungalow nearby. Royal Huahine is peaceful and tucked away, with relaxed, helpful local staff. There are three free navettes each day to Fare, the island's largest village, where there's a big supermarket and excursions start. The setting, space, staff, and fresh local products are the highlights. Just don't expect a very luxurious all-inclusive resort.
