Hôtel Fenua Mata'i'oa

There are plenty of local restaurants nearby, plus a very well stocked store just a 2 min walk away. This is a stunning hotel for a quiet, relaxing stay with privacy. You can tell the owners care about the hotel and its spot on the lagoon. Mosquitoes are part of being outdoors, and I agree with the owner’s choice to use natural remedies. One small suggestion: a bell at the bar would help, since sometimes you have to wait for someone to show up to make a drink. The drinks were delicious and always came with fruit and olives. I’d definitely recommend it.

Everyone was so kind, even the cats wandering around. We slept in a really comfortable bed that felt like it hugged you. Breakfast was the one letdown: the amount seemed small for the price, and we were still a bit hungry despite ordering several items. It was also a pity that kayak and snorkelling gear rentals cost extra.

The prestige suite was spacious and comfortable, and somehow I slept better than I ever have in a hotel. The plush bed and gentle sound of the waves probably helped. The interior looked even better than the online photos, which is rare. Fresh tropical fruit came with breakfast in our room, a lovely start to the day. There are little treasures everywhere in the lounge, on the deck, and around the grounds. The art and statuary give it the feeling of a cultural museum. A welcome cocktail while someone showed us the amenities was a lovely touch. Walking through the foliage to the front desk felt like stepping out of everyday life and into a Polynesian Paradise. Every detail seemed considered. Reading on the deck or snorkeling among all the fish just off it was bliss, with clear, warm water. I’ll dream about this trip forever.

Eileen has made a peaceful oasis that blends real island charm with the tech needs you might have. I’d booked for two, but my travel companion had to cancel, so I went solo. It felt like paradise within paradise. The staff were caring and helpful every day, arranging excursions and suggesting restaurants. I never wanted to leave. Grab a kayak to explore the lagoon, or relax on her beautiful dock and watch eagle rays glide by at sunset. Thank you to Eileen and her thoughtful team!
