Tamanu Lodge

Vanina made Tahiti memorable for me. She was patient, helpful, and such a lovely person that I left feeling I’d made a real friend, and wishing I could take her back to the United States. The lodge has the feel of home with all the touches of a high-end resort, and its trendy style is beautiful and unique. Staying here in Papeete is a great way to experience Tahitian culture while enjoying luxurious accommodations. If there’s availability, you must stay here.

The hosts, who live on site, were nice, and the rooms were clean. Our private room and bathroom worked for a quick two-night stop between flights, but it was a tight squeeze with three beds, our suitcases, and only a narrow walkway. The room is right beside a large, busy road. There may have been about three rented rooms, and the kitchen, jacuzzi, and other shared areas were used by everyone, so it didn’t feel very private or cozy.

We wanted to try staying with a host instead of booking another hotel, and we’re so glad we did. Vanina welcomed us with croissants and made us feel comfortable right away. She was attentive, always smiling, and clearly loves her work. She pointed us toward lots of places to see and some great restaurants. The rooms are spacious, very clean, and just like the pictures. The lodge is also close to the airport. I’d highly recommend it for a few days in Tahiti if you want a warm, friendly atmosphere.
