The Amsterdam Hotel

This place has a lot of old-school character, and I enjoyed staying here. You still get a physical room key, the front desk keeps a paper book for stays, and there’s an old key box and mail slot for each room behind the counter. It feels like little has changed in 50 years. My room was spacious and clean, with retro styling that’s been maintained. All rooms are smoking rooms, but staff assured me there wouldn’t be a smoke smell. I’m asthmatic and sensitive to smoke, and had no problems. My room was well ventilated with an exhaust fan. Even with the noisy street outside, the rooms were quiet both day and night. Given the location, I also didn’t hear guests enjoying the local flavors in their rooms. The staff are courteous and guest friendly. They check guests’ IDs and can register them, or arrange full in-and-out privileges for a longer-term guest. If you escort your guest in and out, the process is easy and staff are friendly. If the guest leaves alone, they call to make sure it’s okay. They take security seriously while being discreet.

We booked a Superior room. It was spacious, clean, full of character, and well maintained, and the staff were very helpful and friendly, especially the security guard. I felt I got my money’s worth. There’s no lift to the 4th floor and there wasn’t a kettle in the room, but the great location still makes me recommend the hotel.

We were in Pella for a friends gathering and stayed here as a group. I usually choose a Hyatt or Marriott, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from an independent hotel, but the place put those worries to rest. The rooms were lovely and clean, and the front desk person was very kind. It’s right in the middle of everything, with a great restaurant and bar on site. I’ll definitely come back!

The staff were pleasant, and the internet worked well. The air conditioning was good and there was plenty of hot water, though the room was only semi-clean, with stains on the carpet. The bed felt too hard for me. The restaurant was being renovated during our visit. Good location.
