RLJ Beach House

The room I had paid for wasn't available when we arrived, and we were offered a smaller non-en-suite room instead. After more confusion, it became clear that was the only option, so we left and found a much bigger room with a pool and restaurant at Marvin’s Seaside Inn, five minutes away, for 25% less. Agoda refunded me in full, though the owner disputed what had happened. I can't say for sure whether it was intentional, but it felt like a bait and switch and was a terrible way to do business. I'd booked eight months ahead, in December 2024, after seeing the photos and strong early reviews. The reservation was for a four-night “Bungalow” for “4 adults”, and the owner said they'd reserve the sea view. My card was charged in full five days before arrival. When we showed up on Monday, August 11, 2025, the staff person seemed surprised. After checking my booking screenshots, they said the reserved room was occupied and offered one night in a regular-sized non-en-suite room, with a move to the view bungalow afterward. I thought I could manage that since our friends weren't joining us the first night. But after we unpacked and went swimming, another family/staff member arrived and, after a lot of confusion, we were told again that the booked room was occupied. The owner/manager wasn't on site, which in my experience tends to cause problems. With no satisfactory solution, only the smaller lodging at the higher price I'd already paid, we packed up and left. Good luck if you decide to try this place.

RLJ Beach House is wonderfully quiet, so it's not the place I'd choose for a party. If you want to get away from everything, though, you'll love it. It's right on the ocean, with a private beach and incredible sunset views, and Naval doesn't feel overrun by tourists. The local kids would play a little approach, smile, and run-away game with me when I smiled back. They were curious about this “white guy,” and it was too cute. The interior is beautiful too, on a level with the best Air BnBs in North America. The people running RLJ Beach House were very nice and accommodating. I highly recommend it.
