We only booked two nights because the wedding we were attending was being held there, but the smell made us leave early. It was so suffocating that most of us came down with the flu. The building feels old and smells like it has a roach infestation throughout. It really needs renovation. The beds were uncomfortable, the bath heater didn’t work, the TV picture was blurry, and there was no Wi-Fi signal. The hallway smelled like a smoking area, and there were no extras such as toothbrushes or water.

The restaurant area was a handy place to work, since its reception was good and they let us stay there, though they switched off most of the lights after midnight. It could get noisy, possibly because of the large glass window facing the hallway. We spent four days here during the typhoon and the power stayed stable. Wi-Fi was strong in the restaurant, but weak in the second-floor rooms. Mobile reception was low up there too, so our pocket Wi-Fi and hotspot were slow. Keep that in mind if you need to work from your room.

The location is really accessible, right along Lacson, and the rooms are affordable. Our room was a little dark, but still comfortable. The air conditioner was somewhat loud and the water heater in our room didn’t work. An okay hotel/inn.

The security issue is what left me most uneasy. Late at night, someone knocked loudly and persistently on my door. I wasn’t expecting anyone, but opened it out of fear and was told they had the wrong room. I can’t help wondering whether this person was even a guest, or had a friend staying there, rather than just knocking at random and waiting for someone to answer. As a solo traveler, I would have told reception if I expected a visitor, and I think that should be required of everyone. Non-guests may be allowed in the dining area, but an unauthorized person getting into the gated space for booked guests is alarming. When I reported it, the response seemed dismissive, and I didn’t get the impression the incident was formally recorded. Some kitchen staff were polite, but my interactions with reception didn’t reassure me. From the beginning I felt watched, which made me more anxious traveling alone. The room was poorly kept: no toiletries, slippers, tissue, or floor mat; visible dust, grimy surfaces, and linens that didn’t feel clean. For a stay of several days, that lack of basic cleanliness and upkeep was unacceptable. Even hostels manage better hygiene. It was my first trip to Bacolod. The price was budget-friendly, but the stay was uncomfortable and disappointing. I don’t expect luxury, but cleanliness and guest safety are essential. I felt unsafe, not welcome.

We had a really good stay and were treated so well by Ms. Jan Renee Gonzales. She was kind and attentive, and gave us great service.
