Old Parola Seaside Cottages

I could get some work done during my vacation without feeling overwhelmed, which says a lot. The place is calm and cozy, and somehow feels like home. It's a getaway where I can reset and still stay connected to my goals. Definitely coming back more often.

A lovely, peaceful place in a beautiful historic town. I'm Spanish, and this town will always have a place in my heart.

We had a great stay, and the inn is easy to get to, right beside the road. The staff were approachable and accommodating. In the room, the AC worked well, the linens were new and clean, and the toilet was in good condition. An exhaust fan in there, along with changing the bed placement, might help with unpleasant odors after use. The wooden veranda grills outside the second-floor rooms need repair or replacement, and adding more along the stairs would make things safer. A shared restroom for guests would be a useful addition, too. Clearing grass by the grilling station would give people more room to relax. The beach is only a three-minute walk away, though you have to climb stairs to reach it.

At 600 pesos, the basic rooms are fine for a solo traveler staying a night or two. Bamboo walls let some mosquitoes in, but I kept the fan on all night to blow them away. I didn't need AC in March's mild coastal weather. It's a cold shower, but you do get a towel. Steps lead out to the beach, and there's a good restaurant with plenty of Indian food options. Staff let me wait around and store my backpack while I was waiting for a long-delayed van to leave Baler. Rainstorms are frequent, which keeps the town from getting too touristy, but there's good surfing and other things to do when the weather clears.
