The family running this place is caring and kind, and they do their best to respond to requests. Batad is well worth a visit, and the location near the vehicle drop-off point comes with lovely rice field views. Just keep in mind how remote the area is and how limited its resources are. My shower was surprisingly hot, and the Western-style bathroom had toilet paper. The room looked and smelled clean, including the sheets and towel. Breakfast was included for me, though it was just two pancakes with jam. There are à la carte options if you want a bigger meal. Michelle cooks very well, so eating here is worthwhile. Order ahead when it’s busy, since food can take a while. Wi-Fi vouchers cost 10 PHP for three hours and the connection worked well. You can refill bottles with spring water or buy bottled water there. I thought the value was very good. One issue: they were overbooked, and I was asked to take the Native House instead of the private room I’d booked. I agreed, and it was an interesting experience, but less comfortable. The space isn’t fully enclosed, so sounds carry. A fire was lit near the cabin around 5 a.m., and smoke came inside and woke me. Apparently this had happened before, so they need to address it.

We only got one night here in Batad, and all of us wished it had been longer. Thank you, Michelle and family! We booked through Airbnb, and the price for four people was very reasonable. The service was lovely and helpful, with food and drinks available on site. This is a remote, beautiful place with plenty to experience, so don’t expect a fancy hotel or all the comforts of a big city. They arranged our travel both ways and met us at the pickup point. A few of us had never ridden a tricycle before, and we had a great time. From the last stop there’s still a walk over steep terrain, so getting here can be difficult if stairs and narrow paths are a problem. Our Philippines SIM had no reception, though there may be internet access for an extra cost. The room and bedding were basic. The mattresses were thin, and thicker ones or two layers would have helped. The shared bathrooms, though, were the best we’d had in the northern region. They were well maintained and had a Western-style basin, toilet paper, a bidet, and a shower with warm water. The food was a huge highlight. There was lots to choose from, including vegetarian and vegan dishes for someone in our group, and everything Michelle freshly cooked was exceptional. You can arrange breakfast the night before if you have a day trip planned. We went to see the waterfall, crossing the terraces and learning about the area on the way. Our guide Rambo was relaxed, patient, fun, and informative, and his dog joined us for the whole walk. We had a great time and all want to come back!

Elmer and his sister Michelle made our stay great. We had clean rooms and a comfortable bed, and the restaurant food was delicious. Elmer’s guided tour of the village was awesome.

We came with family in August 2025 and took two rooms, each with two double beds. They were comfortable enough, the service was friendly, and the food was great. The view was stunning. It’s a nice place to slow down and enjoy the scenery. Getting to and from the Pension involves a walk. You can pay for a porter to carry your bags.

The location is so good, and the view is VERY GOOD! Getting to the pension is the hard part. There are muddy, narrow paths, and you have to go down the mountain and back up again, so anyone who isn’t physically fit will really struggle. The owners are very accommodating, even when lots of visitors arrive. During the April-June peak season, I hope they bring in extra staff to help with guests and cooking. Service can be a bit slow, especially for groups.
