Amboy Hometel

Amboy's Hotel is right by the beach, so we could enjoy the Batanes sunset just across from the hotel. The beachfront is every bit as scenic as other spots in Batanes, and we loved the garden too. They grow the vegetables used in their menu. Internet coverage in the area was poor, though. If you enjoy nature and don’t need much social media connectivity, this hotel is for you. :)

The owners were especially kind. When some guests had their return flights cancelled, they offered them half off their room stay. We were stranded too, and they gave us table tennis and videoke to enjoy, plus a free ride into town for lunch and errands. Dios Mamajes to Ma'am Marivic and everyone at Amboy Hometel! The Hometel was clean, the people were accommodating, and our room felt like a hotel room. It had its own bathroom with hot and cold shower, and the bed was comfortable. They supplied toothbrushes, toothpaste, and shampoo, but no slippers. Breakfast at Alegro Cafe was free and delicious, especially the Beef Tapa. It’s near both town and the airport, and the beach is just across the road. WiFi was good outside our room, but there was no connection inside. We had a great time and would recommend staying here in Batanes.

The hotel was well located, and the room and service were generally good. There were a few things to sort out: on the first day breakfast was native, with no European or American alternative, though that was resolved afterward. There was coffee but no tea, and the room had no soap. The hotel did make a lovely gesture for my wife’s birthday, decorating the room and bringing a birthday cake and tea. We really appreciated that. Despite those issues, we recommend the hotel to friends and family.

The owner and staff were very friendly, and they provide free transfers to and from the airport. The room is basic, about 3 stars, with no kettle or cups. The shower gets hot, but the pressure is low. Service makes up for some of that. There are two restaurants open, both with good food. WiFi worked well downstairs but not in the upstairs rooms, and they can arrange an in-room massage.
