Meaco Royal Hotel Calbayog

The room badly needs maintenance, and there were so many mosquitoes. The front desk staff also seemed bothered by the basic job of checking guests in and weren’t welcoming. Unless you’re a mosquito too, I’d stay somewhere else.

We had a nice view and the location was good. The room was roomy, the beds were comfortable, and the bathroom looked appealing and was clean when we arrived. The TV needs a better signal and more channels, though. We only got seven. One receptionist was hard to understand because she spoke too quietly, and she didn’t seem welcoming when we asked questions. We had a good stay, but there’s room for improvement.

Finding this hotel can take some effort since the front isn’t very noticeable. Once inside, though, it has a few handy things for a budget stay: an elevator, bottled water at reception, and keycards for the rooms. The rooms are decent sized, while the bathrooms could use some work.

There’s no parking, and the hotel sits on a very busy street, so the location isn’t ideal. It can also be tricky to spot unless you know the area. Look for the Novo store, with the hotel right beside it. The entrance and lobby are tiny, but there’s an elevator, and the front desk sells bottled water and snacks. Rooms are tidy, with decent toilets and keycard access. There are intercoms to the lobby in the rooms and in the hallway by the elevator. It’s an okay hotel.
