Alegro Hotel

I paid 2800 through agoda for a Superior twin bed room, and it was worse than the cheapest inn anywhere else. The air-conditioning wouldn't cool even after hours, the wifi was bad, and there was no tissue or trash can liner. The staff didn't seem concerned at all. If only there were a zero star rating. I wouldn't recommend it.

Alegro is a long way from the port area, probably farther than the other Catbalogan hotels. There are a couple of positives: the wifi is solid and the breakfast is nice and free. The staff were very pleasant and courteous, and I wish they had more to work with. The hotel has a faded charm, with elegant-ish stairways, burnished surfaces, and picture windows facing the Samar sunset. Still, my stay disappointed after I was told Alegro was considered a top property in Catbalogan. My small room was clean to a point, but loose bathroom fixtures, chipped furniture, and weak aircon seemed to have gone unattended for years. Spiders were at the back of the closet, and rusty nails were in the drawers under the bathroom sink. A family of butiki ran through the halls. The bed wasn't comfortable, the bedding was very mediocre, and you'd be wise to bring your own blanket. The electric kettle came with no cups, instant coffee, or free bottle of water, though bathroom traveler packs were provided. There was no hot water in the bathroom either. It's not a horrible hotel, but there are better options in Catbalogan.

The place was hot and smelly, and the reception area had a musty, bad odor. Roaches were in the bathroom, and dog poop was left at the entrance without being cleaned up. I was disappointed, especially given how expensive the hotel is.

I stayed the night in room 205. The shower had no hot water, even though I had asked beforehand and was told it did. There was also a serious leak at the bathroom sink, with water eventually seeping onto the floor.
