Hotel San Marco Davao

The exterior looks abandoned, and grab drivers don’t seem to know the place. Inside is nice, especially the rooms.

We only stayed for less than six hours, resting before a hike after my friend booked a two-bed room. It was peaceful there, though our taxi driver didn’t know the area and we had some trouble finding it. The room felt cozy and spacious, and the bathroom, shower, and sink were separate, which made it easy for people to use them at once. There was a water heater and hair dryer. The bathroom could use a lock, more storage for toiletries, and more hooks for clothes. Fine for a short stay.

It’s a good hotel, but overpriced for what it is. I’ve never before seen a place charge the same for every room type. My wife first complained about mosquitoes, but the staff were told and sprayed the room. The hot water was available and at a great temperature.

Ants were all over the room, even getting into my drinking mug. The TV was unreliable, and I had to ask twice to get it fixed. Guest Wi-Fi was unstable and barely usable. The shower also kept running out of hot water, or sometimes had none from the start. Breakfast was mediocre, and there wasn’t much of it. When I tried to get more meat, the waiter literally told me, “that's enough.” I’d paid for a buffet, so what a joke. Most of the staff were friendly, but they often didn’t fix the problems I mentioned. It felt like a 2-star hotel, and I won’t come back.
