The room was small and had no window or AC, just an electric fan, but it and the shared bathroom were clean. We hadn't booked ahead and were still welcomed warmly. The owner was friendly and knew a lot, answering our questions about whale sharks, firefly tours, places to eat, and more. We loved her restaurant suggestion, Ricardos, especially the vegetarian choices and vegan dishes like the chickpea vegetable curry. The firefly trip she arranged was a real highlight. Seeing the lights against a sky full of stars was beautiful, and the whole experience moved us. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed it. Definitely recommend Aguluz Homestay in Donsol.

It feels like staying in a spare bedroom in someone's home. The room was okay for the price, though getting to it meant walking through the living room and kitchen, so we kept running into the host and their family. The standard room has AC, but switching it on costs about 250 pesos extra per night, which felt like a lot to me.

We felt at home with Marilyn and Pepe, and the omelet at breakfast tasted just like something from mom. The room was clean, too. Merilyn arranged our whole whale shark trip, including transport, gear, and fees, for a good price. The homestay is downtown, so it was easy to meet and chat with local people. We recommend it!

Marilyn had us laughing all the time, and Pepe was always smiling. They’re the kind of people we’ll think of as friends for life. This is a simple home run by a well-regarded family in town, and while there were a few little things I suggested they improve, we had a great stay. The rooms were basic but did the job, with good food, air conditioning, power, and a secure place to sleep. Thank you, Marilyn and Pepe. Rob and Ela, Australia

We left as soon as we saw the room. It smelled disgusting and had spiders and webs all over, with cockroaches and random stuff filling the closet. Marilyn was also rather rude. Awful place, don't go, even if it's free.
