Bahay Artisano

The service at Bahay Artisano was full of genuine warmth and hospitality, and made us feel as if the home had been built just for us. JE/James Errol, Kath and Chef Lito were attentive enough to anticipate what we needed before we asked, while preserving the peaceful, private feeling of the property. A huge thank you to all of them. Best stay in El Nido, hands down. Bahay Artisano is a masterpiece, and calling it a 'dream place' hardly does it justice.

The service made this stay unforgettable. The staff were kind, friendly, and so helpful when my daughter felt unwell. They got us to the health clinic and helped us find the prescription medicine she needed. JE, the concierge, knew so much about the country and island, and spends time working with native tribes and rescuing and caring for animals. He arranged a boat tour that suited our family's needs, off the beaten track with great snorkeling and calm beaches, plus a weaving session and other experiences. Bahay Artisano was a perfect fit for our three generations and a wonderful base for exploring the El Nido area. The house is stunning, from the clean pool and spacious living room to the beautiful furnishings and local artifacts made by native tribespeople. We saw monkeys in the backyard, hornbills snacking in the trees, and a monitor lizard scurrying through the brush. The pool was lovely for a dip after a long day, and the light-filled, artistically designed bathrooms were an experience in themselves. Lio Beach is a short walk away and amazing, with delicious restaurants. We also liked the shopping at Kalye Artisano, which offers local souvenirs and supports local artisans. Breakfast was delicious, and we'd highly recommend having the private chef prepare dinner. We asked for 2 dinners, and the local food had spectacular flavor.

John took care of the details, arranging our boat tours with van rides to and from the dock, dinner reservations, and even an impromptu bird watching trip where we saw monkeys too. Kat kept the house spotless, ran grocery errands, and served meals. Breakfasts were delicious, especially the banana bread, and our last dinner from the house chef was a lovely end to the visit. The staff were thoughtful and attentive, and none of us wanted to leave. We're all already figuring out when to come back. The villa was gorgeous, spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. We were a family of 4, including 2 kids in their 20’s, and our 27 year old son slept comfortably in the air conditioned loft. HIGHLY recommend staying here. We'd pick it again and again!

The island hopping was a highlight. The staff took us to places around El Nido while trying to steer clear of the crowds, and during the trip we had Small Lagoon and Big Lagoon to ourselves, even though both are usually very busy. The chef was flexible and great, and Sheila made sure our needs were handled. We stayed ten days at Bahay Artisano with family and friends, and still wished we had longer. Near Lio Beach, the house is very comfortable, with two large bedrooms and ensuite dressing areas and bathrooms. The furniture, beds, bathrooms, and open kitchen are thoughtfully designed, with lots of local art and style. The staff were discreet, helpful, and professional. A great place to stay.
