Viento del Mar

The oceanfront suite on our latest visit was worth it for the beachside location, private balcony, and tub. A similar room in the States would cost hundreds of dollars. I've stayed at Viento several times, and each visit has been better than the last. The staff are all really sweet, and it's a treat when the owner, Mark, is around. He throws dinner parties and takes guests on excursions. We loved joining the Sunday roast and trying Yorkshire pudding for the first time. The regular menu is spot on too. I wish I could have fresh tuna, creme brulee, and beachside cocktails every day back home.

The food was much more carefully done than we expected from a restaurant attached to a surf club. The waiter approached us so professionally that we knew we were in good hands, and the dishes had lovely details like chocolate decorations and herbs. Really high level. We had a quiet setting and a sea view, and they put on fun parties during the week too. I recommend it.

The beachside setting made it easy to lounge all day, and I could also go for early morning runs. In Siargao, everything is about 15 minutes away anyway. As a solo traveler, I found their package suited me and exceeded what I expected. The meals were good, and if Mark is in town he may surprise guests with dinner. The staff were lovely and seemed to be there before I even had to ask. If you don't drive a motorbike, the helpers can take you around when they're available. I had a great four days at Viento and highly recommend staying. Email them beforehand to run through what you want from your holiday.

Viento del Mar has potential, but it wasn't well kept. We left ahead of schedule because there was barely any water in the shower, and management said that's just how it was and we could use the common shower instead. Before that, our towels hadn't been changed, the lavatory spat water when opened, and there was no toilet seat cover. Peach on staff showed no warmth. For nearly the same price, other resorts are newer, include breakfast, and offer better service. Glenn at reception was genuinely nice and helpful, though, and I liked the dog water bowl beside the dispenser encouraging guests to give the dogs water.
