Casa Nala is a real gem in Guiuan, Samar. Everything was unbelievably clean and beautifully maintained, and both the owners and staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Everyone was consistently kind, helpful, and hospitable. We booked through booking.com and were told to call next time for discounts. Couldn't have asked for a better stay, highly recommended for anyone visiting Guiuan.

Hotel La Maria is on Lactason Street in Brgy. 4, Guiuan, with convenient access to places like San Antonio Sulangan Church, Calicoan Island, and Tubabao Island. The staff were friendly and quick to respond, and check-in and check-out went smoothly. The price felt like good value for the cleanliness and service. Our room was clean and well kept, with air-conditioning, a bathroom, free WiFi, bottled water, coffee and tea with a kettle, and a TV. The shower unit could use a closer cleanliness and quality check. Breakfast includes American and Asian dishes, served with a nice view from the 4th floor. You can ask to have it brought down to the ground floor if that's more convenient. A solid budget-friendly option, rated 3.75/5.

The restaurant is just okay, with limited choices and portions that don't match the prices. The view is why people go there. As for the hotel, it did the basic job of giving us a place to sleep, and the sheets were clean, but the cleaning was poor. We stayed for a few days last year. The rooms looked somewhat modern in photos, but in person they felt half modern, half old. The mismatched tiles were funny. There was plenty of space, but the room smelled stuffy and dusty when we arrived. I found dust and chipped paint under the desk, the couch looked dusty, and the mini fridge was covered in mildew. There were about ten lights in the main room, which was nice, but too many switches weren't labeled. The bathroom lighting was extremely dim, and the armoire had dust worms. I understand rooms may sit empty for a while, but they should be aired out and checked before guests arrive. We asked to switch to a room on a lower floor than the one assigned at check-in. If the new room wasn't ready, they should have had us wait while it was cleaned. One day I stayed in while the others went out and asked the cleaners to service the room. They changed the sheets, then used smelly mop water on the floor, possibly without soap. I also saw a cleaner take our water glasses and mugs into the bathroom. I asked what she'd used to clean them, since there was no soap in the room and I hadn't seen her bring any. The other cleaner said they'd used only a towel, which I'd seen them take in. This was gross, especially with Covid going around. If staff are going to clean our glasses, they should clean them properly. Other hotels, including one across town, replace mugs and glasses. We stayed for a while, so after noticing how dirty things were, we bought our own supplies next door at Prince. I cleaned the fridge with bleach because I was tired of our water bottles smelling of mildew. You're welcome, La Maria. We wiped everything down, cleaned the floor with Lysol or antibac wipes, and washed our cups ourselves. After that, we only had the cleaners change sheets, towels, and shower curtains, and take out the trash. I don't recall an elevator. There are about five floors with narrow stairs, and some steps on the lower levels are uneven enough that you feel you could fall. I wouldn't call it elderly- or disability-friendly.

We spent 8 days at lamaria and liked the location. The staff were very friendly, and whenever we had a question we could dial 0 and someone would come up to the room. They fixed an air-conditioning problem right away. Breakfast was nice, and we also enjoyed the good food and view at the restaurant. Damo nga salamat sa staff, macheck ngahaw kami hit sunod may lawas ipahuram ❤️🙏

We paid 2000 PHP for one day, but there was no air-conditioning or hot water, and the room smelled awful. I travel a lot and know how rural places can be. I'm not someone who always needs those comforts, but they were what I paid for here. Don't believe it if they tell you otherwise. It was expensive, and we left after 30 minutes without a refund. Ugh.
