Days Hotel by Wyndham Iloilo

Days Hotel is right in the middle of Iloilo City, which made the location a highlight for me. The River Esplanade, La Paz Market for batchoy, Calle Real, museums, and historic churches are all within walking distance. It’s also directly above a mall with local and Ilonggo fast food chains and a full supermarket. We spent six days there in the Presidential Suite, which was incredibly spacious. It had a mini-kitchen, dining and living areas, a wall of closets, a work table, a sitting spot by the window, a TV console, and a king bed. The toilet and bath were spacious too. I loved the floor-to-ceiling windows facing Iloilo City, especially the Capitol Building, and the seat by the window was perfect for morning coffee. Breakfast buffet was included and the food was quite good. Along with bacon, eggs, crispy fish like danggit or dilis, fruit, bread, cereal, and local sweets, they usually had chicken, pork, vegetable, and soup dishes. I liked seeing Ilonggo options such as molo soup and Ilonggo adobo on the menu.

The staff, from the ground-level guard to the front desk and housekeeping, were friendly and made us feel loved. I picked this hotel for its accessible location and gym while sharing a room with my parents, who are in their 80s. It sits at the corner of old and new Iloilo, around Iznart Street and beyond on one side, and Luna Street and Mandurriao on the other. The lobby is on the fourth floor of a mall, with its own elevators and locked doors, so it felt secure while still being easy to reach the grocery for a quick run. Our room had two queen beds, enough for four adults, though there wasn’t much of a view. The hotel has charm despite its age. Some fixtures are old, and the gym equipment is dated, but it’s still solid, which was actually why I booked. The one small drawback was the smell from the grocery stalls below. It came into the room, which smelled like instant noodles whenever we returned.

The breakfast buffet was generous and delicious, and the bathroom was clean with a bidet. Though the hotel is old, everything inside felt current and the appliances and services worked perfectly. It didn’t look dull or have the old, moldy smell you often get in older hotels, despite what the local taxi driver said about it being dated. It’s centrally located, close to shops and tourist spots, and easy to get around from. I’d highly recommend it for everyone, including seniors and families with kids.
