Cabilao Sunset Dive & Beach Resort

The food is a big reason I’d choose Cabilao Sunset again. Joachim makes his own ham, which I liked much better than anything I’ve bought, even in the USA. The chef puts care and time into the dishes, and breakfast was great. Homemade desserts and nice evenings chatting added to the stay. I also appreciated the kind hosts and the quality of the food. The resort has a lovely atmosphere at night, everything is kept up and works well, and the pool is very clean with shade if you want it. Joachim, the German owner, and his kind partner are passionate about giving guests a good experience. That really stood out compared with places where the employees seemed less interested. We stopped at Cabilao Sanctuary, two resorts away, for a beer one evening. The employees there were shy and slow, and it felt like getting a beer was work. Cabilao Sunset is my choice.

Joachim was incredibly responsive on WhatsApp and called to explain how to get there. We arrived late, and he’d arranged a taxi from Tagbilaran, met us at the pier with his boat, and sent the menu ahead so dinner could be ready after the kitchen had closed. He’s one of the loveliest hosts I’ve met. Bea and Jassell were also so kind. Jassell is one of the cutest, friendliest people I’ve ever met, and Bea has such a kind heart. Thank you all.

The sunsets were beautiful, and we had a peaceful, happy three-night stay at Cabilao Sunset Dive Resort. Staff were attentive, and Joachim and his wife Mia made us feel warmly welcomed from start to finish. They were accommodating and helped arrange our trip to and from the island, with smooth, quick communication. We went scuba diving, and our guide knew the sites well and was experienced. On our last evening, Joachim invited us for drinks, and we tried a good local rum. Mia was kind, and I enjoyed chatting with her. We’d gladly recommend the resort to anyone visiting Cabilao island. For a quiet escape, this remote dive resort has a lot going for it: seclusion, peace, and a solid menu. Bulwarte Beach, the best beach in Bohol, is about a 10 min walk along the coast. There aren’t any bars or outside restaurants, and what you’ll find along the coast is pretty much just three resorts. Paths and motorbikes are available for getting around the island.
