The food was tasty and affordable, and Jimmy was an extremely friendly host who seemed to know everyone. The dive guide explained each step clearly and knew the safety procedures. From shore, the seabed was mostly bare sand and got a little dull, though we spotted nudibranchs, eels, scorpion fish, flatfish, and turtles. The rooms sit close to the main hall, so weekend karaoke can make an early night difficult. For a quiet stay, avoid weekends. Getting there is easy since it's near the main road, but parking is scarce and paid parking may be your best bet. Our room was basic, which is what I expected for what I paid in Anilao. I chose the cheaper option, so I got a spartan room with its quirks. I can't really complain unless I spend a lot more. For a budget-friendly place, it's a very good choice.

That balcony view first thing in the morning is so peaceful. The host was really accommodating and offered tips on where to find what we needed. You can cook here too, just pick up something for the fridge before check-in. The room can sleep four or five: there are two bamboo beds and a foam mattress that can go on the floor. The air conditioning worked well, though we didn't try the TV. WiFi was on and off and often weak. A few things to know: there's no hot shower, and we only got shampoo and soap after asking. A restaurant is nearby, but it closes at 8 pm, and getting to other restaurants isn't very convenient.

The staff were helpful, and it was easy to get to the water, cylinders, and boats. Open Water scuba training can also start with a shore entry.

There's a good-value resto bar serving food and drinks, and they have their own air tank refill for divers. The place welcomes watersports, with beach access, dive boats, a speed boat, and jetskis. They also rent out a large house that works well for a big group. Staff are friendly and great.

We booked the Bayview Villa, a private house that's among the more affordable options in Mabini. It sits beside a bar and restaurant and has a pleasant view over the beachfront. The beach is pebbly. There's not much to see while snorkeling, though it's fine for a swim. The downside is loud music from the bar and restaurant at night.
