Ikani Surf Resort

We had a lovely stay in the most spacious two-bedroom unit with a loft, just a few steps from the pool. We were a group of 20 celebrating a big occasion, and the staff even helped put up the simple decorations we brought. They were friendly, accommodating, and quick to respond. The unit’s enclosed design made air circulation difficult, but the team on site responded to our requests to address it. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise, with good food and generous servings at the included buffet. For meals at their restaurant, expect to spend 400-600 per person. The portions are okay and the food is good. Ikani sits at the far end of the Blue Lagoon in Pagudpud, among some rundown establishments. Since Hannah's closed years ago, the area still feels dilapidated, though there are a few decent mid to high-end places. I knew Ikani’s entrance looked special when I first saw it, and suggested staying there for a day on our next Ilocos Norte visit. There’s a beachfront just outside the main grounds that’s lovely for photos, but not for swimming. The main white beach is more than a 10-minute walk away. It’s a refreshing walk with views of the mountain and windmills. We visited at the end of the Christmas break and would love to return in summer.

If you’re after a quiet break with beautiful scenery, this is a lovely spot. The town is small during the slow season, which I enjoyed, and there are two or three nearby restaurants with different options. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were amazingly kind and helpful. The beach and views were both 10/10. I’ve traveled around the world and made several videos here because the location and scenery are so good. If you want Instagram photos and to have your ego stroked, this place might humble you. I stopped here for an evening during an exploratory road trip. The hotel itself is good quality for the money when discounted, but service and hospitality fall well short. Staff felt unusually cold, and after 7 pm the whole property goes dark with no one around. It felt like a haunted place.

My boyfriend and I stayed one night and ordered breakfast, but none of the things I picked were available. Personally, I’d choose Saud Beach instead. This place looks good in photos, but there’s not much special about it.
