Modala Beach Resort Hotel

The oceanfront room was comfortable and looked lovely, and that rainfall shower was a treat. We spent time on the soft beach and by the big pool, with the resort staff making everything easy. George at the restaurant deserves a special mention for going out of his way to give great service. It’s quiet here, and the semi-private beach means vendors don’t approach you. Alona Beach is livelier and just a short trike or Grab ride away. A great pick if you’re after a relaxing stay with what you need on site.

We really enjoyed our time at Modala Beach Resort. It’s tucked away, so it feels private and restful, while still being in a great location. Our room was kept spotless and refreshed, and the service was excellent. Christine at the Front Desk Concierge was especially helpful, and Amor and John at Mangaon Ta were so attentive. They even sang for my birthday, shared wishes, and brought cake. Thank you!

Pete and Mario in the restaurant were so friendly and helpful, and the staff in general were lovely. We slept really well too, the beds were super comfortable after so many hard ones elsewhere in the Philippines. Our end room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated, with beautiful sea views. The shower had good pressure, but unfortunately there was no hot water. The peaceful setting and palm-lined beach were lovely, though there were two weddings with loud music during our two-day stay. There’s only one restaurant in the hotel, and the food was average. Breakfast was disappointing beside similar hotels we’ve stayed at, and some ingredients weren’t good quality. The restaurant music also kept repeating the same mall song. There weren’t enough beach sunbeds, which should be easy to fix. A few restaurants are in the small mall next door, though I can’t say if they’re any good. Despite those issues, I’d recommend staying here.

The pool was a highlight for our family, with a bar for food and drinks, a separate kids’ pool and lifeguards at both the pool and beach. The shoreline was very clean, with coconut trees and umbrellas to relax under, plus a small beach bar. You can also arrange diving, snorkelling and massages. A complimentary photo shoot turned out to be one of our favourite parts of the stay. Breakfast was another standout, a changing buffet from 6-10 AM with loads of choice, possibly the best we’ve had. We booked four nights through Agoda after my brother suggested the place. Getting around was easy, with airport and seaport transfers available, and security could radio a tuk-tuk driver for us. Moadto Strip is nearby, with shops and restaurants. The setting felt peaceful while still being convenient for exploring. Our room was spacious with a huge comfortable bed, effective air conditioning and the basic amenities. It was cleaned daily, with fresh towels, and always felt tidy. The bathroom was simple, clean and practical. When we needed to change a date, the email exchange involving Agoda and the reservation team was initially confusing, but they handled it patiently. Everyone was cheerful, friendly and attentive, from the front desk and security to the restaurant staff. They chatted and joked with us, which made things more enjoyable. Special thanks to servers John, Wilmar, Renato and Joe, security guard (Sarambosing), and our cleaner JK. It was an excellent family stay that exceeded our expectations, and we’re already looking forward to coming back.
