My friend and I spent five days in Building B, and there were so many problems the staff kept apologizing for that I couldn’t fit them all here. The lobby is just a fancy waiting area. There was no WiFi, and although I counted at least seven power sockets, the receptionist said guests aren’t allowed to use them for charging. Apparently that’s their policy. The pool costs extra, but we couldn’t use it because the host hadn’t made clear where to pay or get a ticket. There were cockroaches too. I guess you can’t escape them in Manila, no matter how much you pay for accommodation. The security door staff could be rude. I have hands and could open the door myself, so I didn’t need someone pointing out which door to use every time I came or went. Nearby Starbucks only gives you 60 minutes of WiFi before you have to pay. Maybe this works for people who live here, but it wasn’t suitable for travelers. I wish we’d had fewer bad experiences, because maybe then I would’ve enjoyed Manila more. Now I don’t want to return to the country, not just the city. And how does a big complex with reception have nowhere to store luggage? I’ve never had that happen on my travels.
Lots of places to eat and handy shops nearby, plus a salon, banks, grocery stores, and cafes. Really nice place. I’d like to stay here again, highly recommended!
Basic situations seemed to confuse the security and front desk staff, and they couldn’t explain procedures clearly or give consistent answers. Their training and communication appeared to be lacking, which made the stay feel stressful and unprofessional.
You’re right by Mall of Asia, with shopping and entertainment close at hand, so the location is decent. Unit quality seems to depend on the booking: some guests describe clean, convenient spaces for short stays, while others report cleanliness, maintenance, or management communication problems. A reasonable choice if location matters most, though the experience can be hit or miss.
Cracked floor tiles and other damage in the common areas have been left unrepaired for two years, and problems like these are visible all over. Building management is extremely inefficient, while staff respond slowly and act as if working for SMDC makes them untouchable. Even as a unit owner paying monthly association dues, you’re treated as though you’re beneath them. I strongly advise against moving into any SMDC property. Save yourself the frustration.
