At Home Annex

We spent a couple of days at "at home" and really enjoyed the calm, welcoming feel. The lodges were comfortable and nicely decorated, and the place felt like a garden retreat even though it’s conveniently close to Puerto Princesa. The owners were friendly and helpful, and you can tell they care a lot about the place. We ate breakfast and dinner there every day, and both were superb. It’s easy to spend the day relaxing by the pool, or rent one of their motorbikes like we did and visit nearby highlights, including the west coast beaches. We’d happily come back.

The homemade dinner was a highlight, especially since they went out of their way to accommodate my food allergies. The food lived up to the glowing reviews and then some. We also loved the spacious, charming huts, with their creative design and spotless condition. Before we even arrived, Cedric had made sure we knew the local airport fares and suggested the Backride Pinas app, which made getting around much easier. Laurent & Cedric, thanks for such warm hospitality and a wonderful stay at your hidden gem. We’re already looking forward to returning.

The food was so delicious and varied, with fresh ingredients, that we didn’t want to eat anywhere else. Breakfast had plenty of choice, and dinner is available too. We also had a wonderful massage on a special outdoor veranda, and the masseuse was very skilled. Laurent and Cedric made us feel welcome throughout our stay and gave us great tips when we used a scooter. The cozy, well-equipped cottages have lovely verandas, and the pool is a fun, unusual feature. Athome exceeded our expectations. It really feels like a little paradise.

The mosquitoes were the worst part of this jungle setting. I was bitten badly, with about 50 itchy bites by the time I left. Laurent was helpful and gave me mosquito smoke sticks, but they didn’t help. At night, barking dogs and a rooster calling at intervals made it hard to sleep, even with the earplugs Laurent kindly provided. I also found the location difficult. The place is down a very muddy, unlit path in the San Pedro residential suburb of Puerto Princesa, far from restaurants and the airport. Tricycle drivers complained about going down the path and wanted extra money. The floor air conditioner in the room was far too small for the heat and humidity. There are only three cabins, and during low season I was the only guest. I had booked eight days but checked out after five. I felt totally threatened by Cedric and worried about my safety. He even wrote a blackmail post, which is attached, and took a secret photo of me relaxing on the couch with insulting comments. As a level 8 guide, this is the worst conduct I’ve ever seen. I expect an apology or further action. I have a screenshot of the photos you posted. This is a warning to others. I chose the wrong location. This place wasn’t for me.
