The room itself was only okay: the towels were wet when we arrived, the bathroom floor was damp, the pool was dirty, and there was no Wi-Fi password given, though we could see a signal. The host blamed a storm from three days earlier. There was also a power cut for a few hours at night, so no AC. What made the stay much worse was the booking and payment mess. We reserved through Expedia at a price we were willing to pay, then the host said the website had made a mistake and the room really cost twice as much. He wanted more cash from us, saying Expedia charged him fees on every booking. We couldn't afford that, and the location, late hour, and lack of Wi-Fi made finding another hotel difficult. He said cancellation was our only option, but a same-day cancellation meant losing that night's money. We showed him Expedia's terms, which said the hotel would receive the money and would need to pass it back to us if he wanted us to cancel. He said he didn't know when Expedia would pay him, so he wouldn't agree. We felt stuck between paying extra to keep the room or cancelling, getting nothing back, and searching for somewhere else that night. We negotiated and gave him half the extra amount he asked for. He said he'd speak to his uncle and told us to rest, so we unpacked and showered. Then he came back to the door saying his uncle wanted more. We said we couldn't pay and would cancel; he hesitated, said he'd call again and sort it out, and sent us back inside. This happened five times before we finally handed over more cash. Later he still said he'd ask a friend who managed another hotel to take us, despite us having already paid. The tour arrangement was another problem: he said taxes, buffet lunch, and equipment were included, but none of those were covered on the tour and we had to pay again. There were other details too. To us, this was a huge scam. Don't book it. He also booked our tour and explained everything was included, including tax, lunch buffet and equipment.
