Sunset Beach Resort

After a long overnight flight, this tranquil place was just what we needed to start our Philippine adventures. Roberto and April welcomed us so warmly, and the whole team made the stay feel personal. They served delicious Filipino dishes, organised an island-hopping tour, and gave us time to relax by the pool and recover. Even with a typhoon, we felt safe and reassured the whole time. Roberto also helped arrange a van to El Nido. I can’t recommend this secluded, serene place enough. Big thanks to the whole Sunset team for making the start of our trip so special.

April and Roberto made me feel welcome from the start, and the place is beautiful and relaxing, like a little paradise. It was my first stop in the Philippines, and a perfect beginning to the trip. It’s easy to have all your meals there, then head out on boat or land tours. The tours are amazing and likely much more peaceful than the ones in El Nido. I especially liked the big shared table where everyone had breakfast and dinner together. It made meeting other guests easy. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms comfortable, and everything you might need is provided. Thank you for such a wonderful stay. I hope to see you again!

Life slows down here. You can walk barefoot, listen to nature, and watch spectacular sunsets. Sunset Beach Resort feels like a true paradise, unspoiled by tourism, in an area that’s practically deserted. I’ll definitely be back. Don’t miss a beach massage under the large, majestic tree. The resort sits on a nearly deserted beach, with a pool and incredibly friendly owners, Roberto and April. It’s intimate, with only five double rooms, each with a private bathroom. Breakfasts and lunches are fresh and delicious, with vegetarian options. April makes sure everyone enjoys their meal, and Roberto, a native of Germany, is always on hand to help and look after guests. They can arrange transportation from El Nido, Puerto Princesa, and Port Barton at very reasonable prices. The airport connecting with Cebu is nearby and convenient, though there are only a few flights a week. San Vicente is about 1.5 km away and can be reached by tricycle for 300 PHP round trip. Scooters, bicycles, and motorcycles are available for rent on-site. Roberto can also arrange island-hopping tours around the nearby beaches and coves, including a visit to Port Barton. The prices are half what you’d pay in El Nido, and the places are fabulous, with waterfalls you can swim in. It’s worth renting a scooter to ride about 25 km to Ningning Viewpoint, visit Atiya Beach, swim at Turtle Beach, and have a cheap, delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Try the Fish Sinuglaw, a local tuna ceviche. I’d also recommend hiking to the Hundret Steps viewpoint. Ride a scooter to the parking lot, pay a small fee, then walk the last section, as the route can be quite challenging.

When I came across a small, malnourished stray dog nearby, I wasn’t sure what to do. The hotel owner immediately showed real concern, offered help and guidance, and made sure the dog got proper care and was safely handed over to a neighbour. That kindness made a strong impression on me. The setting is beautiful, right on the beach, with a sparkling pool at the center. It’s serene, well maintained, and comfortable, with tasteful decor and lovely surroundings. You can tell a lot of care goes into the details. I can see why travelers looking to relax by the sea choose this place. The lovely location and the warmth and generosity of the people running it have convinced me to stay here on my next trip. I’m already looking forward to experiencing their hospitality firsthand!
