The beach is right outside this nice beachfront resort. Camotes still feels pretty rustic and not fully commercialized, so it could suit you if you want to get away from civilization. There’s no WiFi, and only a few restaurants nearby. The rooms are simple, with a toilet and shower, and the shower has an on-demand water heater. Every room has A/C, which you’ll need. There’s also an outdoor kitchen and a basic grill if you want to cook.

At 2000 pesos ($40) a night, this tiny room is barely bigger than the bed, and places nearby charge a lot less for the same standard. The food is expensive, too. It’s very basic accommodation for the price. I had to ask for toilet paper, and without floor mats the sand makes the place filthy. The AirCon filter looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in years. WiFi was okay, but I had to wait for a manager to arrive and enter the password. Apparently, they don’t trust staff or guests with it.

The WiFi and TV worked, and the water finally came back at 10 PM. That was about the only good news. For a room costing 2100 Pesos a night, the water kept cutting out, so we couldn’t shower that evening or the next morning. It was a disaster. When we arrived, they couldn’t find our reservation, even though we’d made it three days earlier. There were no towels, the TV remote was missing, and she had no change. The outlet in the room didn’t work, and three hours after payment we still had no receipt. At 8.30 PM there was still no water. Seriously, this is one of the most expensive places here. Shame on you.

We’d stay here again if we returned to Camotes island. The fan room was clean, spacious, and reasonably priced, and you get an ocean view from the restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The rooms are plain and don’t have a view. But the restaurant space is so lovely, it made us wish we had one like it at home.
