The Orange Place San Juan

I spent two weeks here last year and liked the place. It was affordable, clean, with a decent bed and good air-conditioning, and the bathroom was great. Staff were friendly, cooked nice food in the morning, and also offered lunch. WiFi was available on every floor and worked reliably. That's a big plus compared with the green hills Elan hotel, which charged more than twice as much and still charged extra for WiFi that barely worked. I'm American, and I'd recommend this place if you're staying in Manila for a while.

The room and rates were average, and even though the place may suit someone on a tight budget, I wouldn't strongly recommend it to friends or family. We weren't told on the phone that choosing the 1200pesos option for 12hrs would mean an additional fee on top of the regular 1800pesos rate. They only told us about that when we arrived and started checking in. The free breakfast was a cup of rice and two pieces of meatloaf, or it might have been Spam, I'm not sure. There was no choice and not even unlimited coffee. WiFi was weak, the TV was an old bulky one with no cable, and there was no heater. Our room didn't seem properly cleaned either, since I found tissues in a drawer. The pictures didn't match the place at all.

The photo below has my full review, so have a look. But if you're after somewhere affordable around San Juan or Greenhills, this place is a solid choice. The room was clean, the bed and pillows were comfortable, and it felt like good value. I'd come back for sure.

The location is great, and the price was more than fair. Staff were exceptionally pleasant, and yes, I'd stay again. Just be aware there's no Wi-Fi in the room or daily room service, and I wasn't keen on the breakfast.
