The Wilsons' Shangrila

The garden has lovely views across South Cebu and gives you access to the sea. There isn't much in the way of amenities in Sibulan itself, though quite a few tourist attractions are within reasonable distance. The B&B is well worth keeping in mind: the rooms are very nice, and the house is a treat to look around, filled with art and curios the owner has collected. The manager and staff are extremely friendly and attentive. Highly recommended, which isn't something I say often.

We arrived around 7 in the evening, and the road to the property was so dark that it felt a little creepy, even though there's a sign on the highway. The location is somewhat tucked away from the main road. I also think another bathroom and toilet would be a great addition, since with a lot of guests you may have to wait to use them. Inside, the place feels very homey, with lovely furniture, art, books, and ocean scenery. The hosts were kind, accommodating, and quick to respond to our requests and concerns. I'd recommend staying here.

I came back to the Dumigatie area in December and wouldn't stay anywhere else. On my first trip I was looking for somewhere peaceful near Dumigatie and ended up at Wilson’s Shangri-La, where the owners and staff made me feel like family and went out of their way to help. The ocean-view patio made breakfast feel special, and they were happy to handle special requests. My room was tidied every day, and they offered laundry service as well. They also arranged a candlelit patio dinner for my girlfriend that felt like a five-star restaurant. Later, when I wanted to gather her whole family to announce our engagement, they prepared a feast, bought flowers, and made the occasion feel just as special. The food was beyond compare. They put me in touch with Lorna, a wonderful tour guide who showed me the island's beautiful spots. We went snorkeling with a Whaleshark‘s and sea turtles, saw coral reefs, and visited white sand beaches. The private boat was inexpensive, and we could set our own schedule. I'd highly recommend staying at Shangri-La for its comfort and friendly atmosphere.

I spent four nights here and felt right at home. It was a comfortable stay, with the owner and staff looking after me while I was the only guest since the Pandemic. There are just five bedrooms, and two share bathrooms. I took a short video and some photos of the place. The property is about 8 minutes from Sibulan Maayo Shipping Terminal, roughly 200m off the main highway, and has parking inside the gates. White vans run from both bus terminals, with fares of 10 pesos to Sibulan and 25 pesos to Dumaguete. For meals, I had breakfast after returning from jigging; for lunch or dinner they could prepare a course, or I went to Jo's Chicken Into-Sibulan restaurant, a 3-minute drive away. The owner had arranged a boatman before I arrived. I started jigging from their dock at 3 pm that evening, then went out again from 4 am to 10 am the next morning before breakfast. I'll be back soon, and next time I won't be alone.
