For ₱1,500 a night, I expected better cleanliness and upkeep. When we checked in at RedDoorz @ Minas Place Tacloban, reception first put us in a dirty room with water leaking from the ceiling. We reported it and were moved, but the second room wasn't clean either. Its doors were broken, the bath mat looked like it hadn't been changed, and the linens were damaged. Based on our stay, it wasn't worth the price. I wouldn't recommend it, and hope management improves housekeeping and room maintenance for future guests.
Very disappointing. The booking app photos were far from what we found. The room was untidy, and the bedsheets looked dirty with lots of hair on them. Only one bulb worked. The receptionist said they'd replace it before night, but we later learned we'd have to change it ourselves. A waste of money. Don't book.
The room itself was okay, but there are a few things that need attention. The bathroom door is broken, and the entrance door looks like it could be pushed open from outside. The Wi-Fi is weak, and the lobby and reception need more light. Also, they should bring back the free breakfast 😅.
The biggest issue is how hard this place is to find. The address listed on Google Maps, RedDoorz.com, and other sites says 53 Real St., which suggests it's downtown. In reality, it's in Barangay Fifty-Three, Real St., a kilometer or two outside downtown. The hotel is also tucked behind the smaller Hotel Jayobo Inn, which fronts the street. You have to go down a narrow alley beside it to reach the entrance. I spent two hours looking for it in heavy rain one night. It may be easier to spot in daylight or when you're less stressed. After I finally arrived exhausted and soaked, they upgraded my room for free. It's next to a large Petron station and attached directly behind the seafoam green Hotel Jayobo Inn. Searching for Jayobo Inn may help you find the actual location. Please also see my attached photos. For a small regional capital in the Philippines, the place is decent enough: the rooms are small but reasonably clean, the aircon is strong, and the price is fair. It's near central downtown, though not actually in it. There's a 7/11 next door, plus restaurants, McDo, and Metro supermarket nearby. They offer free water and, I think, coffee. Wi-Fi is available and definitely works in the common area, but it barely reached my room. I can't say whether the other rooms are the same. There was no hot water, though the shower was room temperature rather than freezing. Parking is almost nonexistent. Forget it if you have a car. A small motorcycle can barely fit in the alley, and you're not allowed to use Hotel Jayobo Inn's parking or park at Petron. For the Philippines I'd give it 3 stars, just barely. In other countries, maybe 2.
The shower had no hot water.
